Lao Language Guide & Audio - World Nomads app good for
This is a pretty good app to learn some basic Laotian. My wife is Laotian and this will be a nice starting place for me to learn a few more sayings. I wish there were some other day to day phrases or words here.
All in all its pretty good and easy to hear what the people are saying. I hope there is an update soon with added stuff.
Keep up the good work.
The guy is terrible at pronouncing Lao words but good enough for a foreigner. This app needs more words like can you help me ? Where can I get sticky rice and papaya salad? Where do I get Beerlao?
Great free app. Would love to pay for a more complete version in Lao. Depending on the area of Laos youre in, the words and accents are correct.
So far the app is great. My boyfriend is Lao so its really helpful as Im trying to learn Laotian to speak with his family, etc. I know quite a bit more words than is even on here, but the listening helps a lot. There REALLY needs to be more content!! It would be an amazingggg app if so :)
Very simplistic app, but I highly doubt youll need to learn to say "Those drugs dont belong to me." if you travel to Laos. You may need to learn to day it in Thai if you were to go to Bangkok.
I love the fact that there is a Laotian app but it is very limited. Please dont make this a useless app cause we already have alot of people that arent interested in the people and country and cause we definitely need people to understand us better in order help Lao people so we dont lose our culture and language like the American Indians!!!
Some bad moments
Needs more words.. Not enough other then that it would be a 5 star
Agreed! Could use more common phrases.. everything else seems to be very well made but theres more room for improvement
This application is a joke. It might be useful if you never needed to say any number over 10 (but at 8500 Kip to the US dollar, just getting to 10 wont help you buy anything), or mention any day other than today or tomorrow, but in the real world, the limited vocabulary will leave you frustrated.
Then theres the problem of pronunciation. Since it does not provide the tone marks, your chances of being understood are close to nil. Neither can you show your screen to the person youre trying to speak with, because this application does not provide the translations written in Lao.
It took me almost a half hour to download this app (connectivity is very bad in Laos) and it was a complete waste of time. Why do they even bother?
This app is a waste of time. It contains only a handful of poorly pronounced phrases, and audio "lesson" that only reiterates the same information, and the numbers one through ten.
I know way more words that arent in here but I downloaded it since my grandparents moved back to Laos and I forgot ALOT of words.
My family speaks the language fluently, so ive been wanting to learn. It turns out many of the phrases are actually Thai and some have very awkward vocabulary, some of the big phrases can be said in much simpler words. Some if the grammar I completely off as well. Also, the foreigner in the audio says "penis" multiple times instead of "I". It should be mentioned that the inflection is very important when speaking Lao. One slip and youre saying a completely different word.
